WGS 386 The Recovery of Women's Past(CO)*

(Also HST 386). 4 hours; 4 credits. An examination of the history of women, beginning with ancient and classical notions of patriarchy in Mediterranean and Near Eastern cultures. Review of Jewish, Christian, and Islamic prescriptions about women as a basis for understanding the changes in modern Western history.;Approximately half of the course will examine the past two centuries when women's movements, feminisms, gender analysis, and sexual liberation evolved.
